A VILLAGER has been handed a suspended jail sentence after threatening a man with a dagger.

Gareth Davies, 53, of Bradfield Road, Wix, admitted charges of threatening a person with an offensive weapon and criminal damage when he appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard he threatened the victim at home in the village between April 10 and 11.

He also damaged an internal door at the property.

Magistrates handed Davies a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, due to the “realistic prospect of rehabilitation” and lack of previous convictions.

He must also take part in a rehabilitation programme, pay costs of £145 and a £128 surcharge to fund victim services.
