A ROAD is set to be closed for more than two weeks while repair works are carried out by engineers, potentially causing chaos for commuting drivers.

Mayes Lane, in Ramsey, will be shut to motorists from the junction with Church Hill to the junction with Oakley Road from July 25 until August 9.

During that time teams from Essex Highways will be conducting extensive carriageway patching works to fix certain sections of the road.

An alternative route will be available in both directions through Ramsey Road, Oakley Road and Low Road for the duration of the closure.

Drivers are, however, being warned of the impact the works could have on their journeys and have been urged to allow more time for their travels.

A spokesman for Essex Highways said: “The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while carriageway patching works are undertaken.

“Access for emergency service vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained at all times during the closure.

“For information regarding this closure please contact Essex County Council, who will able to assist with scope of these works.”
