MANNINGTREE Town Council has warned beach users over bringing glass or glass bottles onto beaches.

There was a close shave on Saturday afternoon where a child stood on broken glass.

Fortunately, the child was not seriously injured.

The council also stressed there was no connection to the weekend's beer festival, which used plastic glasses.

In a post the council said: "To our beach users please do not take glass or glass bottles onto the beach.

"There was very nearly a nasty incident yesterday afternoon when a child stood on a broken glass.

"Parents please be mindful when your children are on the sand just in case there is any more broken glass embedded in it.

"This is in no way connected to the exceptionally well organised beer festival who were using plastic glasses.

"It is just coincidence that there was broken glass in the sand.

"This is the second incident of sharp foreign objects found in the sand this summer and so far luckily no one has been seriously injured, but please be aware children and dogs are playing on our beach, let’s keep everyone safe."

They have also warned parents to be mindful of their children and dogs playing on the sand, in case there is embedded broken glass.

This is the second incident of sharp foreign objects found in Manningtree sand this summer.

Much like this instance, the person involved in the first incident walked away without a serious injury.
