A NEW Dovercourt car park is introducing parking charges, Tendring Council has confirmed.

Orwell Place was created on the site of the former Starlings garage and Queens Head Hotel.

Plans also included public toilets, landscaping and the intention to use the site as an event space, providing capacity for a Christmas market or travelling fair.

In October, it was reported motorists visiting Dovercourt town centre would be able to park in Orwell Place for free while work continued on the site.

The charges come into effect beginning Friday, November 10.

Councillor Mick Barry, Tendring Council's cabinet member for public realm, said: “It has always been our intention to have charges at the new Orwell Place car park, and we were pleased to offer an initial free period which has now come to an end.

“Our standard fees will apply. This is an important income to support the ongoing running and maintenance of our car parking service.

“The hugely successful and popular Householder Parking Permit Scheme applies to Orwell Place – as it does to almost every single one of our car parks – meaning Tendring residents will be able to park for free in this car park after 11am for ten months of the year.

“Orwell Place car park is a fantastic amenity and one I am sure will be popular with residents and visitors alike coming to Dovercourt town centre.”
