THE Harwich community came together during Remembrance Sunday to honour and commemorate sacrifices made by soldiers during the First and Second World Wars.

Events took place in Harwich and Dovercourt.

Mayor Maria Fowler and Sir Bernard Jenkin, the MP for Harwich and North Essex were among those taking part in the commemoration.

In the morning, crowds including councillors, military personnel and members of the public assembled in front of Dovercourt Memorial Cross.

Ms Fowler, who is a ward councillor for Dovercourt All Saints and Nigel Spencer MBE, Deputy Lieutenant of Essex, were among those to lay a wreath in front of the memorial cross.

In the afternoon, the Remembrance Sunday parade and Civic Service took place at St Nicholas Church.

Ms Fowler said: "Remembrance Sunday is an opportunity to honour the selfless contribution made by all those who have lost their lives in conflicts past and present, it was an honour to lay the wreaths on behalf of the local community."
