HARWICH Society have revealed their popular snow drops are now in bloom – a favourite time of the year for visitors.

The Harwich Society volunteers who manage Bobbit’s Hole - Harwich Society’s nature reserve on Main Road - are delighted with this year’s snowdrops.

Aileen Farnell, a member of the Bobbit’s Hole team, said: “We have added to the snowdrops each year for a considerable number of years and the annual display is now a truly lovely sight.

“We welcome visitors through all of the seasons but I doubt there is a more attractive time to visit Bobbit’s Hole than when the snowdrops are in bloom.”

Bobbit’s Hole was shown on a map dated from 1550 which is held in the Guildhall, Harwich and would have likely have been a watering hole or other source of fresh water.

For the Silver Jubilee Year of 1977 the Harwich Society Executive Committee made the cleaning and tidying up of Bobbit’s Hole its project and by 2001 it was as recognised by Tendring District Council as a Local Nature Reserve.

A group of volunteers opens the reserve every Sunday morning between 10am and 12noon.
