Driver tells of A12 body horror
Police were today appealling for witnesses to solve the mystery of a body found on the A12.
Keely Scanlon, 17, and her friend Ed Olding, 21, spotted the body, believed to be a woman's, on the southbound carriageway of the busy trunk toad near Capel St Mary.
A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out today, while special scenes of crime officers have spent the last two days scouring the surrounding area for clues.
A car was also recovered from a layby at the scene, which officers took away to examine for evidence.
Keely, of Langham Lane, Boxted, said she was horrified at the discovery and angered when motorists refused to stop.
She said: "I was driving my friend back from Ipswich when I saw something in the road. It was awful."
She added: "Everybody kept driving on.
"Ed was in the road trying to stop the traffic and no-one was pulling over. I'm disgusted.
"They could see two young people in need of help and they just drove on because they didn't want to get involved.
"We could have risked our lives trying to move the cars out of the way."
Her mum Angela Scanlon said: "I am proud of her, it's unbelievable she has such a big heart.
"You don't want your 17-year-old daughter to see anything like that, but she and her friend tried to stop any more traffic from hitting the body, which must have taken some guts."
The Colchester-bound carriageway was closed between the Copdock and East Bergholt junctions until about 5am yesterday.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the Capel area before 9.45pm on Monday, particularly people who may have been travelling home to Essex, or who has any information about this incident, to call Suffolk Police on 01473 613500.

It could just be that they were afraid to stop. Sadly these days people don't trust one another and they probably thought they were trying to carjack them or pull some sort of scam. I know it's wrong but that would be my first reaction.

A weak excuse by anyone in my book to ignore a situation like that. People like you are the tabloid medias bread and butter. Get a life and actually see what the worlds really like rather than take it on what you hear about.

But you are suggesting other drivers deliberately ignored the situation - I would suggest they didn't have any idea why they were trying to stop the traffic.
We've all read reports of drivers who stop to help a lone woman in distress, only to be mugged or have their car stolen by her accomplices waiting nearby. I'd suggest it's you who need to be aware of what's going on out there in the wild!
Yes it's a sad state of affairs but in todays world you can trust nobody at face value - there seems to be a scam behind most things.

Think most people don't care is closer to the point, it's easy to claim I thought it was trick afterwards. There has been no reports of any other motorists even phoning the police about the body or even reporting two people trying flag cars down on the A12, most people only care about themselves in this post-Thather society.

Wake up stop being so paranoid. This nation is full of 'nothing to do with me' types. And they are the one who go round moaning how bad its got!!!
My first instinct is to stop and help. Regardless.

Congratulations you have obviously more time on your hands than me. To be fair perhaps i should of looked up the past few years news to see if i could find a reference. I suppose the fact that you cant sleep at night due to being so paranoid gives you the chance to look through the archives at will. Personally i had a good nights sleep...did you???.

In all the reports I read, seen and heard about this horrendous case there has been no mention of the lone female who DID stop to help the couple and as a result called the police.
