Harwich: "Waste of Time" Bus Shelter
RESIDENTS say a new bus shelter is a waste of time because it leads them nowhere.
The shelter, in Main Road, Harwich, is the last stop before Harwich bus terminal, about a quarter of a mile away.
But on the opposite side of the road, there is a bus stop with no shelter that means travellers can catch the bus to Dovercourt, Clacton or Colchester.
John Darnell, who lives opposite the bus shelter, said: "No one uses it, it is a waste of time.
"They the county council have had two bus stops put there and if two buses stop at the same time, the road is blocked.
"And why have they put a bus shelter there when no one is going to use it?"
"If it rains- and you are at the opposite bus stop- you have to go across the road to use the shelter and hope you can catch the bus on the other side in time, when it does come."
An Essex County Council spokesperson said: "This is a bus stop that was installed with the requests from the local community in the same place as there was a bus stop before.
"With a shelter it makes it a better facility."
He added that the bus shelter is 350 yards from the bus terminal which fits in with the council's guidelines for distances between bus stops.

Putting the bus shelter outside the old school is stupid, no one gets on the bus there they only alight. It should be opposite where people actually wait to get the buses. What could have been something usful for the public is now just another waste of money. Well done ECC for putting up the other shelters in the rights places though!
