THE MP for Harwich and North Essex has hit out at a fellow Tory MP for appearing on a reality television show.
Bernard Jenkin, MP for Harwich and North Essex, slammed Nadine Dorries’ decision to jet off to Australia to appear on the show I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here while Parliament is sitting.
Mr Jenkin said: “I think it’s quite difficult to justify going on holiday when Parliament is sitting.
“As an MP you are meant to be there when Parliament is sitting and to represent your constituents’ interests, I can’t see how she is doing that in Australia making a television programme.”
As a result of Dorries’ appearing on the show David Cameron suspend the party whip, which means Dorries has been suspended from the Tory Party until she explains herself to ministers.
Mr Jenkin said: “She left the party in a very difficult position and it’s likely she will miss important votes so it makes it very difficult for the whips."
