A NIGHTCLUB is set to reopen this weekend after missing its deadline to complete upgrade work.

The Basement, in Kingsway, Dovercourt, was forced to stay shut last weekend.

Tendring Council ordered owners to make improvements and sound deflecters by November 9 following a review into its licence.

It was allowed to stay open if owners followed 15 conditions including installing two doorways to block noise from leaving the building, and adding a sound limiter to the speaker system.

A noise dispenser must also be added to the building’s roof and beer coolers must be moved or shielded from making noise.

But Mike Gibbons, owner, said The Basement would be open by Friday November 16.

He said: “Closing last week had a big impact for our customers who were obviously disappointed we did not open but we will be open this weekend.

“A lot of work has been done to sound proof the building and it took a bit longer than we expected.

“We hope this is the light at the end of the tunnel and we thank all of our customers for being patient with us.”
