ROUND the clock policing will return to Harwich Police Station with a bigger force to stamp out crime in the town.

Town leaders have praised police for addressing their fears that Harwich is becoming “a paradise for criminals” following numerous burglaries to homes and businesses.

Three constables and two sergeants will be added to the Harwich roster and all staff will start and finish their shift in Harwich Police Station, rather than Clacton which they did on some night shifts.

While Harwich has always had 24 hour surveillance by officers on the beat, they started their duty in Clacton during some night shifts.

Now they will now always start and finish their shifts at Harwich Police Station and will also now investigate low level crime.
