THOUSANDS of revellers welcomed 2013 with a bang during a town’s annual New Year fireworks display.

Harwich Quay was crowded with residents young and old ready to bring in the New Year on Monday night.

A claxon from Trinity House signalled the start of the ten minute display and about £6,500 worth of fireworks twinkled across the peninsula to excited cheers and applause.

Brian Hill, chairman of the fireworks committee, said: “The Harwich Quay New Year’s Eve fireworks display has now become firmly established as one of the highlights in Harwich’s calendar and this year’s display was a spectacular success.

“Our extreme gratitude is extended to all who have played a part in the event’s production.
