A MYSTERY donor has paid hundreds of pounds so a memorial for poisoned cats can be built.

Dovercourt fundraisers are “at a loss for words” after a generous man asked Kanes pet shop how much was needed to build a cat statue in memory of pets poisoned by anti-freeze – then handed over an envelope with £500 inside.

More than 30 Dovercourt cats have died or been put to sleep since July after suffering symptoms of poisoning.

Since the deaths, a Facebook support group has been set up, petitions have been set up to ban ingredients which make anti-freeze attractive to cats, and Bernard Jenkin MP has offered his support.

Glen Brunsden, who started the Facebook group, Victims and Friends of Cat Poisoning, Dovercourt, decided to start the collection at Kanes pet shop two weeks ago.

The donation covers the entire amount needed to install an 18cm tall cat figure, wall fountain and plaque outside Kanes in Lee Road.
