Fines for dodgy parking at Fryatt Hospital

A DISABLED health campaigner has praised a hospital trust for fining bad parkers on its grounds.

Parking fines will be issued to drivers parking inappropriately at Fryatt Hospital and Mayflower Medical Centre in Main Road, from January 7.

It means people who park in a disabled bay without a blue badge, on a double yellow line, on hatched lines or on the grass, will have to pay £10, or £25 if paid after ten days.

Health campaigner Vickie Williams said overall the plans were a good thing despite obvious drawbacks.

“If you had a dying relative you would be traumatised and would just want to get parked,” she said.

“There should be more disabled parking spaces at the hospital, which is probably what causes a lot of the problem. There are also people who are very aggressive because they can’t park where they want to.

“But I do really think it is a good idea."
