Police search Dovercourt gardens for weapon

POLICE scoured gardens and dredged drains in Dovercourt looking for a weapon used in an attack.

Officers, some in plain clothes, conducted house to house enquiries and searched through residents gardens on Thursday morning, January 3, in a bid to find a weapon believed to be involved in an assault on New Year’s Eve.

Residents on Highfield Avenue, Dovercourt awoke to see dozens of officers, some in plain clothes, going door-to-door and searching the area.

They were looking for a weapon believed to have been used in an attack on a 20-year-old man, near BP Garage in Main Road, Dovercourt, on New Year’s Eve.

Dave Rutson, of Highfield Avenue, said two officers spent ten minutes searching through his garden.

He said: “Everyone was wondering what is going on.

“It was the volume of police that shocked me – there were police cars swarming all over the place.

“It must be quite serious to have that volume of police.”
