Staff and residents condemn attack on Mistley church

CHURCH staff and residents have condemned thoughtless yobs who vandalised a church gate.

White gloss paint was thrown over the Lych Gate and tiles leading to the doorway at the Saint Mary and Saint Michael Church, in New Road, Mistley between 4pm Saturday and 10am Sunday.

Church staff spent several hours on Wednesday morning repairing the damage.

Church warden Valerie McLachlan, said: "Why deface something that is beautiful?

“I just wish people would find something better to do with their time, it’s a struggle and expensive to keep it going and this just makes things worse, but we battle on.”

She said the vandalism, which is the latest in a string of attacks on the church, had been reported to the police.

Anyone with information should call Mistley Police Station on 101.
