Police commissioner: Community must work together to stop crime Police commissioner: Community must work together to stop crime

THE NEW police commissioner has said he will do all he can to stop burglaries in Harwich and new figures show an increase in thefts.

New figures reveal there have been 29 more burglaries in the area from April 2012 to the middle of December than the same time last year.

The increase comes despite a 13 per cent reduction in overall crime in the area.

Nick Alston, the police and crime commissioner for Essex said he would be monitoring the force’s work but also stressed for the public to be vigilant.

“Tackling burglary is primarily an operational matter for Essex Police, and I can assure the people of Essex that as PCC I will be keeping a close eye on the force’s work in combating the increase in this type of crime across the county," he said.

Brilliant. "Tackling burglary is primarily an operational mater for Essex Police" & " I will be keeping a close eye on the forces work"

Could you sit on the fence anymore. What a waste of time and tax payers £80k a year for someone to keep an eye on them!!

It's police (more of them) that prevent crime not silly new roles introduced by the dreamers in Whitehall.

new houses are going to be coming up... loads of people may be moving up here where there are no jobs :-( plus the govt is going to have to further curb spending and people on benefits will see them dwindle...
all the above spells more robberies!! :-(

good old fashioned policing coupled with effective CCTV coverage and intelligence led preventative actions will deter crime.

other than that... i'm sorry to say that society might rapidly degenerate into vigillantes! :-(
