Anger at council as road floods for week

FRUSTRATED residents dug out blocked trenches because a council had not pumped a flooded road.

More than a foot of rain water had collected in Rectory Road, Little Oakley, around December 29, causing a headache for pedestrians and damage to cars.

After an initial complaint, Essex County Council’s highways department laid out flood warning signs for drivers. With the water still not subsiding, calls were made for it to be pumped from the road, near The Old Rectory.

But after nearly a week of waiting neighbours grabbed their shovels and took matters into their own hands.

An Essex County Council spokesman said it would look into the source of the floods and take appropriate action.
