CONTROVERSIAL plans to build houses on allotment plots have been unanimously opposed by councillors.
Mistley Parish Council was united in rejecting plans by Gabor Glausiusz at an emergency meeting.
Mr Glausiusz wants to build 24 bungalows on land currently occupied by allotments off Shrubland Road.
The land is not included in Tendring Council’s local plan - the area's planning masterplan for the next ten years.
Speaking at the meeting Phil Chatfield, chairman of the allotment association, welcomed the council’s support and slammed the plans, saying they would fragment allotment plots.
He said: “The whole scheme needs a hell of a lot more consultation.
“It shows a road going through the existing allotments which flies in the face of them being preserved."
Mr Glausiusz, who owns the land as part of a consortium, can still formally object to the local plan or apply to Tendring Council to build on the land without the parish council’s support.
