SWIMMING pool campaigners are celebrating in anticipation of a £670,000 investment being allocated to their run down facility.

Tendring Council has been advised to agree the “radical investment” to Dovercourt Swimming Pool ahead of its Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, January 23.

A new ground floor unisex changing village and fitness room will be built if plans are passed. It is hoped the gym will move into the new fitness room.

If grant funding is achieved, extra cash will be made available for Walton and Brightlingsea pools.

Campaigners were outraged when Tendring Council decided to split a £700,000 cash pot, earmarked for Dovercourt, between Brightlingsea and Walton pools, too.

Harwich councillor Jo Henderson welcomed the new proposal.

“It is a shame it has taken four years to get to this but it is what we were asking for," she said.

"The current changing room is dire. The new village will be family friendly, the gym on the lower level will sort out the disabled access problems and also make it more accessible for people with health conditions."
