A GOVERNMENT investigation into the so-called Plebgate affair failed on a number of levels, it has been claimed.
The Commons Public Administration Committee, which is chaired by Harwich and North Essex MP Bernard Jenkin, said the events leading up to the resignation of Andrew Mitchell as Government Chief Whip have demonstrated again the structures for investigating alleged breaches of the Ministerial Code did not work.
The committee, which also includes Witham MP Priti Patel, investigated the handling of the affair and its report has now been published.
It concluded the Cabinet Secretary Sir Jeremy Heywood had "failed to resolve" key questions about the affair when he looked into the matter.
