A PARISH council has thrown its weight behind a campaign to protect a popular quay.
Mistley Parish Council unanimously agreed to back the campaign to approve village green status to Mistley Quay.
The proposal would see the land up to the river Stour adopted by the public. Its authorisation would mean a six foot fence erected at the port could be removed.
Mistley Parish Council will write a letter of support saying it is in the interest of the residents of Mistley as a whole.
Essex County Council, which makes the decision, said the village green inquiry would be held sometime in June.
