Speed reduction needed for dangerous country road in Little Oakley
7:30am Wednesday 6th February 2013 in News By Helen Barnett
A CAMPGAIN has begun to reduce the speed limit of a dangerous country road.
Little Oakley Parish Council is urging Essex County Council’s highways department to help stop hazardous driving in Rectory Road.
The majority of the lane is 60mph but councillors say the narrow pass and bends in the road can make it difficult for drivers.
Vikki Howard, clerk at Little Oakley Parish Council, said: “We have been looking at reducing the speed limit from 60mph to 30mph. The country lane end is quite dangerous.
“Because it is 60mph some drivers think they have to do 60.”
An Essex County Council spokesperson said: “We are currently carrying out a comprehensive review of our policy on the introduction of new speed limits so we are able to respond to the needs of both local communities and highways users. We take road safety very seriously and if residents have concerns they should contact us on 0845 603 7631.”
