A MAGICAL dance routine scored Harwich youngsters a winning spot at the first championship qualifier of the year.

Boogie Shoes Dance Academy scooped 15 qualifying places for the grand dance finals in Guildford this October.

A total of 50 children from the school travelled to Southend on January 30 for the dance competition.

Qualifiers included Charley Neal, Tilly Leach, Abigail Elmes, Clara Rowe, Sophie Elmes, Maisy Leach, Elizabeth Stark, Nina Montgomery, Elle Scott, Chloe Carmen, Georgia Green and Georgia Hunter. Katie Dalby, who runs the school, said: “I had lots of fantastic results on Sunday as well as the qualifiers.

“Mollie Woodward came first in her under 10 solo and Emily Clements came first in her over 16 solo.

"Katie Rawlings-Waumsley and Katie Rowe won the under 14 pairs and Emily Clements and Lauren Gaeta won the over 16 pairs. “Our over 16 intermediate team came first too with a dance choreographed to a remix of the Harry potter theme tune.”

On Sunday Boogie Shoes, based in Harwich and Lawford, hosted an open dance competition at Clacton Leisure Centre.

More than 300 children competed in disco solos, disco pairs, teams, rock n roll, slow solos and street solos.

The competition was judged by Tara Prior, a professional adjudicator from Royston.

Winning first places were Abigail Elmes, Sophie Elmes, Holly Cooper-Keeble, Molly Hodgeson, Chloe Collyer, Dylon O'Kane, Emily Cooper-Keeble, Mia Burrells, Nina Montgomery, Niamh Fitzgerald, Chloe Carmen, Imogen Matthews, Emily Clements, Katie Rawlins-Waumsley, Alexandra Scibberras, Georgia Hunter, Lily Olley, Elle Scott, Josie Ratcliffe, Mollie Woodward, Sadie Mills, Charley Neal, Charleigh Chatterton. Under 10 team winner was Dramatic Diamonds. Under 12 team winner was Impact, and the over 16 team winner was Ignite.
