Sad goodbye for Dovercourt shop

A MENSWEAR shop that has been in Harwich for around 90 years is the latest victim of the recession hit town centre.

Coes in High Street, Dovercourt is to close its doors in June and it is thought the three staff members will be offered alternative jobs in other branches in Suffolk or Maldon.

Lesley Pollard, chairman of the Harwich and Dovercourt Partnership and Town Team, said the shop will be sorely missed.

“This is the result of people not shopping locally,” she added.

“It is sad - Coes is not a faceless place, it is part of the community as are the staff there.

“It is such a shame to lose it.”

William Coe, owner of the shop which replaced a former store called Bogeners, said it was with "great sadness" that it was closing.

"We have been committed to Dovercourt for over 30 years and its closure has not been an easy decision to reach," he added.
