Zoo licence move 'killed animals'

RESCUE animals have died from stress according to owners who were forced to move them because they didn’t have the right paperwork.

Mistley Place Park is facing up to the sad conclusion of a mix up with their licence.

The animal sanctuary was told it needed a zoo licence to stay open after inspectors said wild animals were not allowed to be on public display.

Owners Maureen and Michael Taylor said the licence would cost them £10,000 and force them to shut the park, so instead set about rehoming the animals and moving some from public view.

But last week Michael received a devastating phone call saying one of his rheas, a South American breed of ostrich which was moved to private land in Suffolk, had died.

An endangered red squirrel and an owl have also died at the park  following the stress of moving location, Michael said

Just goes to show beaurocracy and red tape is all that matters. Was any harm being done?

Tricky one, in this case obviously not but the rules are there to help prevent mistreatment.

The last time I visited this place I was charged to get in. I was sold feed for animals. I purchased a drink and a cake. . All with out a receipt. The place was a mess ,no proper hand washing facilities..A beautiful peace of parkland not being run properly. Shame.

This is somewhat bizzare and a very emotive statement to make and one I do not believe. I do not believe this because of the lack of facts, the lack of evidence. Now many of you will, but there are dead animals, so there is your evidence! My reply to that would be; but how do you know that was the cause of death? By using emotion to attract a head line, to use emotion without knowing the facts is a very dangerous game...unless the move was carried out by people who had not a clue about what they were doing. Sad that animals have passed away. Not sad for the owners who should have know better.
