Footpath improvement work destroyed by vandals
5:37pm Monday 18th February 2013 in News
“MINDLESS vandals” have attacked improvement works to a popular walkway hours after it was completed.
Tendring Council is appealing for help to catch the thugs who trashed The Hangings footpath two nights in a row.
New fencing was installed on the walkway, which connects Dovercourt and Parkeston, but posts were pulled out of the ground and some were stolen on Thursday and Friday nights.
Money is being spent to plant 150 trees and 600 plants along the walkway over the next month. A clean-up operation is also underway.
Council leader Peter Halliday said: “It really makes you wonder whether it is worth it if they are just going to be vandalised by a small minority to spoil the enjoyment of everyone else."
The incidents have been reported to the police who are investigating.
Funding for the project has come from Section 106 money provided by developers for local improvements as part of their planning permissions.
Anyone with information should call Harwich police on 101.
