LOSING her job helped Kate Worsley realise her dream of writing a novel.

And five years later the Mistley author's debut book is about to hit the shelves.

Based in Harwich She Rises is a tale of drunken sailors, press gangs, smugglers, and love.

“Everyone always says novels take a long time,” Kate said.

“I was made redundant in 2007 and realised if I didn’t do it now then I never would.

“My idea was to write the book before going back to work – but it took twice the time I thought.

“It was five years from idea to it being published.”

She Rises will be officially launched at the Alma Inn, in Harwich, on March 14 from 6.30pm.

The Naze Shanty Crew will be singing shanties from the book at around 8.30pm and then the Harwich Shanty Festival will be holding a fundraising auction for the 2013 festival in October.
