Troubled swimmer dies in hospital

A MAN has died after getting into trouble in the sea.

The Standard reported earlier today that police, Harwich RNLI and an RAF helicopter rushed to the man in his 50s on Sunday, March 3, who had reportedly swam out to sea near Felixstowe Ferry.

A woman had alerted the emergency services just before 6pm.

The RAF Wattisham helicopter, which was on a training exercise, winched the man to safety just inside the river Deben.

Crew flew him to Ipswich Hospital at about 6.20pm but he sadly died later in hospital.

Police are not treating the incident as suspicious and said a file would be prepared for the coroner.
