Some allotments saved after negotiations with landlord
UNDER threat allotment holders have had a mini victory after negotiating an extended lease.
But there is still uncertainty for 12 holdings in Mistley.
All growers were due to be turfed off their land off Shrublands Road two weeks ago after their landlords gave them a month’s notice.
Despite being against the contract, owners gave the notice to quit after Mistley Parish Council objected to their plans for housing on the site.
The development idea was for 24 bungalows on green belt land near Furze Hill which was not included in Tendring Council’s Local Plan.
Mistley Parish Council chairman Martin Rayner said he had negotiated for 15 allotment holders to say until December 4.
But 12 half plot holders on land to the west must still leave the site.
