Cancer victim PCSO to cycle Tour de Tendring for charity

A LEUKAMIA sufferer is rounding up police officers to take part in a charity bike ride.

Ray Aylott, 62, was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) in 2009 and underwent a six-month course of chemotherapy.

Although he is in remission, the police community support officer (PCSO), who works in Harwich, knows he has not been cured and the cancer will return.

Ray will cycle 20 miles in the Tour de Tendring to raise money for Leukaemia Care, a charity that provides support to anyone affected by blood or lymphatic cancer.

The tour begins and ends at Dovercourt swimming pool and gives everyone taking part the choice of completing a 6, 20 or 60 mile bike ride.

Ray, who lives in Thorpe, took part in the six mile cycle ride last year with his daughter Zoe Mallett and raised £1,200 for Leukaemia Care.

This year he has roped in nine work colleagues, friends and family members for the May 19 event and has a target of £2,000 for Team Aylott.
