50 protesters travel to hear Great Bromley reservoir appeal
9:00am Saturday 24th August 2013 in News
VILLAGERS hope they have beaten off a bid to build a huge reservoir on their doorstep.
Essex County Council turned down proposals for land next to Manning Grove, near Great Bromley, more than a year ago.
The consortium of farmers behind the scheme launched an appeal in a bid to overturn the decision.
They want to create a 36 million gallon reservoir to irrigate crops and remove 300,000 tonnes of sand and gravel.
Protesters claimed it would lead to 60 HGVs a day thundering past their homes for the next four years.
Fifty objectors travelled to the appeal hearing in Chelmsford.
The final decision will not be released for another three or four weeks but residents said they were optimistic about their chances of stopping the plans going ahead.
