Essex defends decision to sell for £375k
12:00pm Monday 26th August 2013 in News
A CAR registration flogged off by Essex County Council for £375,000 is now worth an astonishing £6million.
The council insists it got the best deal possible when it sold the F1 registration five years ago - despite it now being valued at 16 times that amount.
The number plate now belongs to Bradford businessman Afzal Kahn (pictured), who bought it from the council in 2008.
He was recently offered £6million for it, but refused to sell.
A council spokesman said: “We got the best price for it at the time we sold it and it still remains the highest ever value for a number plate.”
