Bid to boost eyesight tests for children
7:30am Tuesday 27th August 2013 in News
A GROUP of Essex eye experts have launched a new campaign calling on every youngster in the county to get their eyesight tested.
Niall Dorgan, of the Colchester Hospitals Trust has joined forces with orthoptist colleague Sue Kevan and Specsavers directors Nick Hagan and Louise Staunton to create Saving Essex Eyes.
Research discovered only 41 per cent of children in Essex had their eyes tested last year, while nationwide 44 per cent require glasses or alternative prescriptions.
Mr Dorgan said: “Given that in 2012 there were about 185,000 children registered in Essex schools, that means there could be up to 48,000 children in schools across the county struggling with their vision.”
