New NHS hotline to be launched in Tendring
6:00pm Tuesday 3rd September 2013 in News
THE launch of a new NHS non-emergency number in Tendring is finally set to go ahead.
Integrated Care 24 has signed a deal to run NHS 111.
The hotline, which will replace a longer phone number, was meant to be up and running at the start of this year.
It was delayed over difficulties with the number elsewhere in the country before the NHS pulled out of the contract entirely in July.
The aim of the 111 number is to reduce the number of 999 calls and relieve pressure on accident and emergency departments.
Advisers offer basic health advice and direct the caller to the most appropriate service.
IC24 will start to roll out NHS 111 across the area by the end of the year, but it won’t be available everywhere until 2015.
Until its launch patients in Tendring can ring 0845 4647 for health advice.
