Jenkin: Syrian president had ‘clear motive’ to use chemical weapons
6:00pm Friday 6th September 2013 in News
AN MP has claimed Syrian president Bashar Assad had a “clear motive” to have used chemical weapons on civilians.
Harwich and North Essex MP Bernard Jenkin took part in a debate in Parliament last Thursday in response to reports that President Assad’s regime had carried out a chemical weapons attack on his own people.
The former shadow defence secretary backed the Government’s motion for possible military action.
The motion did not call for immediate military intervention, but was defeated by 285 votes to 272.
Speaking in the debate, Mr Jenkin said: “There is a clear motive for Assad to have done this."
