HARWICH'S Redoubt Fort was built to withstand attack - and that doesn't make it the easiest tourist attraction to get to.
The steep hill running up to its impregnable walls is a daunting climb and was putting some elderly and disabled people off.
But now there's no excuse not to visit the Napoleonic fortress after the Harwich Society - which owns the attraction - built a mini car park at the top.
Society chairman Colin Farnell said: "We got complaints that the hill was too much for older people and families who wanted to come and see the fort.
"But as a result of our new car parking area we now have seven parking spaces at the very top of the hill which hopefully will mean that many more people will be able to enjoy all that the Redoubt has to offer.”
