A CONTROVERSIAL planning application for a new starting hut has been given planning permission.
Councillors on Tendring Council’s planning committee have given the application to replace the current dilapidated hut the go-ahead.
Stour Sailing club want the new starting hut to store equipment including items related to social events.
The sailing club has twice made alterations to the hut to make it smaller after the original decision was deferred in a hope all parties would come to an agreement.
Both Mistley and Manningtree councils were against the application.
This application saw the hut reduced in length from 8.5m to 6.5mand reduced in height from 3.95m to 3.2m.
Dave McLeod said: “The current hut is dilapidated and past its sell-by date.
“It will be better, bigger and more useful for the people who are going to use it.”
