‘Fingers crossed’ after inquiry over 600 homes
7:30am Monday 30th September 2013 in News
A HEARING has been held to discuss controversial proposals to develop an industrial site.
It follows a consultation into plans to change Babergh’s planning policy, which could lead to homes being built on the Wardle Storey industrial site in Brantham.
Hundreds of houses could be built on nearby green fields as part of the scheme. Up to 600 homes have been mooted.
Landowner the St Francis Group says it needs millions of pounds generated from the housing to clean up and redevelop the industrial estate – the former home of plastics firm Wardle Storey, which shut six years ago.
The inspector is to determine whether additional land for open space and housing is necessary and justified by the evidence presented.
Parish councillor Trevor Nobbs said: “From our perspective the inspector seemed to be sympathetic to our concerns. As a parish we felt the hearing went well."
