Get involved in carnival frolics
9:00am Saturday 5th October 2013 in News
PREPARATIONS are in full swing for one of Harwich’s biggest annual events.
The Guy Carnival sees a procession of giant heads, satirical floats and a torchlight procession through the streets of Harwich.
The carnival, which dates back to 1854, sees people in the town take to the streets to mock – or “guy” – fellow residents, councillors and those in authority.
Residents have been asked to get their thinking caps on and submit their pithy pars as the deadline is fast approaching.
Harwich Rotary is encouraging people to submit their poems by the end of this week either on the Rotary club website or by sending them to John Wade at the Cliff Hotel.
The event takes place on October 26 and people can still enter for the procession. For more information visit guycarnival.harwich-essex.co.uk.
