A NOTE penned by Admiral Nelson before he was killed in the battle of Trafalgar has sold at auction for £7,000.
The signed letter went under the hammer at Reeman Dansie autioneers in Colchester on Saturday and was expected to fetch £6,000.
In the letter, Nelson had mentioned Dr Scott, who attended to the naval commander’s fatal gunshot wounds at the 1805 conquest. The two-page letter was dated October 8, 1804.
Michael Bowles, collectors’ consultant at Reeman Dansie, said the letter went to an online bidder whose identity has not been disclosed.
However, he said another auction lot, a letter written by Nelson’s French rival Napoleon Bonapart, went for a mere £900.
