Lift lets down residents
12:00pm Friday 18th October 2013 in News
RESIDENTS have become prisoners in their own home after the lift in their sheltered accommodation broke down.
The lift in Wimborne House on Marine Parade in Dovercourt has been out of action for four weeks and people living still don't know when the issue is going to be resolved.
Joan Sutton, 80, has had knee and hip replacements and suffers from a heart condition which is made worse by having to take the stairs.
She said: "It broke down four weeks ago and all we are told when we call the people in charge at Sanctuary Housing is that it is in hand.
“The staff here do not know what is happening either.
“If we have to have a new lift then so be it but we just want to know.”
Tim Susans, head of service for Sanctuary Supported Living, said: “We are sorry for the disruption caused and are working with our contractors to repair the lift as quickly as possible.
“There are systems in place so that we can help the two residents who regularly use wheelchairs continue to meet any appointments.
“We are liaising with residents on a daily basis to ensure they get any extra assistance they may need but would still encourage anyone who needs any extra help to contact a member of staff.”
