Jenkin stands up against sexism in the Tory Party
4:00pm Tuesday 22nd October 2013 in News
MALE Conservatives must rethink their attitudes to women or be “left behind”, a Tory MP has said.
Harwich and North Essex MP Bernard Jenkin said many Tory men felt “women’s issues” should be left to women “so men can get on with running the country”.
And he said the lack of women in senior government positions and the party was proof of the culture change needed.
Mr Jenkin was speaking after the coalition reshuffle saw the promotion of four women – Esther McVey, Jane Ellison, Nicky Morgan and Anna Soubry – into senior government positions.
