Figures show more potholes on local roads

LOCAL roads suffer more from potholes than major routes, new figures reveal.
Data released at the launch of a new Roads Repairs Centre at County Hall showed more than 8,100 repairs were outstanding last month on minor routes in Essex.
Councillor James Abbott, leader of the Green group on Essex County Council, said the figure had risen by one-third from June.
Mr Abbott, member for Witham Northern, said: “These figures show the roads in Essex continue to get worse.
“We understand money is tight yet what we are seeing is more potholes on local roads, justified frustration from residents who can wait ages for repairs to take place and continuing inefficiencies in the way in which defects are reported and assessed.”
Mr Abbott added the figures were not exact due to some duplication in the way potholes are reported but said the general trend remained the same.
