Officers check level crossing safety
10:00am Tuesday 29th October 2013 in News
BRITISH Transport Police monitored motorists at a level crossing to ensure they were aware of the dangers and risks involved.
A marked mobile safety vehicle was positioned at the crossing near Manningtree train station between 6.30am and noon on Friday October 18.
The van has nine cameras fitted with automatic number plate recognition technology so motorists who break the law can be contacted at a later date.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “The aim of the operation was to make motorists and pedestrians more aware of level crossings and to educate them in using them correctly.
“This education and enforcement initiative gave us another opportunity to drive home the message that running the risk at a level crossing is just not worth it. By trying to save a few seconds you could end up seriously hurt or losing your life.”
