Rogue landlords set to be banished under new initiative
9:00am Thursday 31st October 2013 in News
ROGUE landlords could be banished from Essex under a new initiative.
County Hall has launched the Essex Landlord Accreditation Scheme to support landlords and tenants.
Landlords will pay around £100 a year to join the voluntary scheme and will get advice and special offers, but will face a stringent checklist of criteria to qualify.
They must have valid gas and electricity certificates for their properties and lodge deposits with a third party as per the law, and ensure all faults reported by tenants are dealt with promptly.
The scheme is scheduled to open from May and Essex County Council has teamed up with a number of councils.
John Jowers, Essex county councillor for communities, said: “This scheme will play a key role in achieving this aim by ultimately driving up the quality of homes in the private rented sector and driving rogue landlords out of the market.”
