A BRAVE former police horse is battling on after his second bout of emergency surgery.

For years Trojan proudly served the people of Essex fighting crime and keeping order.

But when the Essex Police Mounted Unit was axed The Horse Trust stepped in to help him avoid a similar fate.

Nicknamed Big T or the Trojanator for his size and demeanour firm favourite Trojan was expected to be able to enjoy his retirement.

Unfortunately medical emergencies have got in the way.

A spokesman for the Horses Trust said: “Trojan was first admitted to the Royal Vetinary College in September 2013, where he was treated for tooth spurs, cracked teeth and a severe sinus infection.

“On his return home vets had warned that there was a chance Trojan would require further surgery.

“Unfortunately the antibiotics Trojan was on didn't manage to clear up the infection so Trojan returned to do battle with his teeth once more.

“Trojan's surgery was long, but essential, and this bold horse took everything in his stride as he always does.”

He is now safely back with the trust, after £5,000 was spent on the surgery, getting back into shape on a horse walker.
