A TEENAGER’S love for the rock band Queen inspired him to raise cash for the charity set up in memory of frontman Freddie Mercury.

Sam Geden, 19, is selling hand-made red ribbons and false moustaches to raise funds for the Mercury Phoenix Trust.

The Lawford teenager, who finished a film and media studies course at Colchester Sixth Form last month, fell in love with the band two years ago and has even met guitarist Brian May.

Sam said: “I’m trying to get this out there to raise awareness of the trust.

“Thankfully, HIV and Aids haven’t been in the news since the Nineties, but I think it deserves some media coverage.”

He put together the packs with the help of mum Diane and designed a small information card to tell people about the cause.

The trust was founded by Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor, along with the band’s manager Jim Beach following Freddie’s death in 1991.
