HARWICH MP Bernard Jenkin has said he will accept “whatever rate is paid for the job” if plans to give MPs an 11 per cent pay rise go ahead.
The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority is expected to recommend MPs salaries are increased by £7,600 to £74,000 after the 2015 general election.
The watchdog, which was set up in 2009, oversees and regulates MPs’ business costs and expenses.
Mr Jenkin said he would not be accepting an ‘substantial’ pay increase if it was brought in, in this parliament.
He said: “I have nothing to do with this proposed pay increase. I do not get to vote on my own pay any more. “The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority seems to have decided to implement this pay increase.
“I will not accept any substantial pay increase in this Parliament. “If I am re-elected in 2015, I will accept whatever rate is paid for the job.”
