TIM Yeo will leave the fight to save his political career in the hands of his party members after calling for a postal ballot.
Six hundred members of the South Suffolk Conservatives will be given a vote in the new year to say if they want him to stand as their candidate in the general election in 2015.
The result of the vote will be binding and voting papers are expected to be sent out to members on January 20.
Earlier this month the South Suffolk Conservative Association decided not to re-select Mr Yeo, of East Bergholt, as their candidate for the 2015 Election.
Mr Yeo, 68, said: “Whatever their decision is I will continue to work hard to secure a Conservative victory in South Suffolk as I have done ever since I was first chosen as the candidate for this constituency."
